Do you permit yourself to live your best life?
Do you feel guilty or ashamed for pursuing your goals and dreams?
This has been my story since I had Ivana and Jane in 2008. Unfortunately, when the diagnosis and medical challenges unfolded, I lost myself. I convinced myself that as a mum to twin girls on the autistic spectrum, I could have no other life except playing my caregiving role. As a result, I often felt guilty about going out for the occasional lunches or dinner dates or simply taking time out for myself.
I love my children unconditionaly and dedicate myself to providing the best care and support possible. However, as time passed, I was burnt out and realised I had neglected my needs and desires.
Not so long ago, I realised that I needed to make a change and permit myself not just to live but to live my best life. I had to find a way to balance my career, business, and family commitments. As the saying goes, “You cannot pour from an empty cup.” So, I started to educate myself on how to care for my Angels and, most importantly, ask for help and take care of myself too.
I started to do this by taking small steps daily. This could mean having time to read a book or rest after an exhausting day. I also contacted friends and family for support, realising I could not do everything alone.
As I began prioritising my needs, I noticed a change in myself. I felt more energised, more confident and more fulfilled. I stayed focused and started to work towards my dreams and goals. I have promised to prioritise my self-care and well-being and never feel guilty or apologetic about it.
One day, I decided to focus on completing the book I had written for ten years. Every life has a story, and I have mine to share. I have also started this blog to share my journey and inspire other special mums to care for themselves and pursue their passions.
The journey has been challenging; sometimes, I feel exhausted and overwhelmed. However, I now realise that permitting myself to live, set and pursue my goals is the greatest gift I could ever give myself.
Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes it can feel like we’re not living up to our full potential. Perhaps you’re stuck in a job you don’t enjoy or feel unfulfilled in your relationships. Whatever the case, permitting yourself to live your best life is essential. Loving and living your best life can mean different things to different people.
First and foremost, it’s essential to realise that you control your life. You have the power to make choices and take action that can lead to a more fulfilling life. However, sometimes we can get bogged down by self-doubt, fear, or societal expectations. It’s time to break free from these limiting beliefs and permit yourself to pursue your dreams and live your best life.
One of the first steps in permitting yourself to live your best life is to identify what that looks like. Ask yourself, what are my values, passions, and goals? What brings me joy and fulfilment? Once you have a clear idea of what you want, you can start taking steps towards achieving it.
Another crucial aspect of permitting yourself to live your best life is letting go of negative self-talk or limiting self-beliefs. Believe me when I say I have been there. You are capable of achieving your goals, and you deserve to live a fulfilling life. Don’t let anyone, including yourself, convince you otherwise.
It’s also important to surround yourself with people who support your dreams and encourage you to reach your full potential. Seek mentors, friends, or family members who believe in you and can offer guidance and support along the way.
Remember that living your best life doesn’t mean everything will be perfect, or you won’t face challenges. But by permitting yourself to pursue your dreams, you’ll be better equipped to handle any obstacles that come your way.
Giving yourself permission to live your best life is a powerful step towards achieving fulfilment and happiness. By identifying your values, letting go of limiting beliefs, surrounding yourself with your supportive tribe and taking daily consistent action towards your goals, you can create a life that brings you joy and meaning.
So why delay, go ahead, permit yourself to live your best life, and watch your dreams and aspirations become reality.
Until the next time,
Gee xx
